What Makes Mountain Highway Crashes More Dangerous?
Mountain highways like Angeles Crest Highway present unique driving challenges that can increase the risk and severity of crashes. These roads often feature sharp curves, steep elevations, and limited visibility, which can make it difficult for drivers to react quickly to changing conditions.
Narrow lanes and minimal shoulder space can also leave little room for error. When vehicles collide in these areas, the impact can be more severe due to speed combined with difficult terrain.
Early morning conditions, such as reduced light or possible moisture on the roadway, can further contribute to crashes. Drivers traveling on mountain roads are encouraged to reduce speed, remain alert, and stay within their lanes to help prevent serious collisions.
