What Factors Are Reviewed After Pedestrian Turning Crashes?
Pedestrian crashes involving turning vehicles require a review of traffic signals, roadway layout, and the movements of both the vehicle and pedestrian. Investigators typically examine where the pedestrian was located, the timing of the turn, visibility conditions, and any available witness information.
Intersections can create complex situations because drivers must watch for vehicles, pedestrians, and traffic signals at the same time. Factors such as lighting, road design, and driver awareness may also affect how quickly a collision can be avoided. Evidence from the scene, including vehicle position and roadway markings, can help provide a clearer picture of how the crash happened.
