Redding, CA (April 8, 2026) – Two people were injured on Wednesday morning after a crash involving a law enforcement vehicle and a propane tanker truck in Redding.
The collision occurred around 10:37 a.m. on April 8, along Clear Creek Road east of Cloverdale Road. Authorities said a sheriff’s deputy collided with a propane tanker truck, which was identified as a 600-gallon AmeriGas vehicle.
Emergency units responded to the scene, where a deputy suffered major injuries, and the tanker driver sustained minor injuries. The crash caused about 40 gallons of diesel fuel to spill onto the roadway, with an additional amount entering the dirt shoulder. A propane leak from the tanker was also detected, prompting evacuations in the area until crews could stop the leak.
Officials said the spill was contained and no waterways were affected. Additional details about the circumstances leading up to the crash have not been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
What Happens When Hazardous Materials Are Spilled After a Crash
Crashes involving fuel or gas transport vehicles can lead to hazardous material spills. These incidents require careful handling to prevent fire risks, environmental damage, or exposure to harmful substances.
Emergency crews often secure the area and may evacuate nearby locations as a precaution. Specialized teams work to contain leaks and stop the flow of materials as quickly as possible.
Cleanup efforts depend on where the materials are spread. Spills on road surfaces can be contained more easily, whereas those that reach soil or nearby areas may require additional measures to prevent further impact.
