Robeson County, NC (March 8, 2026) – A bus crash left dozens of people injured along Interstate 95 near the W Broad St exit in Robeson County.
The accident was reported shortly before 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 7. Early information shows the front right tire of the bus blew out while the vehicle was traveling along the interstate.
The sudden tire failure caused the bus to veer off the roadway. The driver then attempted to correct the movement, but the bus overturned and slid more than 200 feet before coming to a stop.
Emergency units responded to the crash scene and found multiple people hurt. Authorities confirmed that 31 people on the bus, including the driver, suffered injuries in the incident. One person was reported to have serious head injuries and was airlifted from the area for treatment. The conditions of the other injured passengers have not been released.
The crash also caused a temporary shutdown of the highway, and Interstate 95 remained closed for roughly two hours, from about 7:50 p.m. until 9:50 p.m., as crews worked at the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they are provided. Our thoughts are with those affected as they continue to recover.
What Can Cause a Bus Tire Blowout on Highways?
Tire blowouts on large vehicles such as buses can happen for several reasons. Long highway trips place heavy stress on tires, especially when vehicles carry many passengers or cargo. Heat buildup from constant driving may weaken the tire structure over time.
Road hazards are another possible factor. Debris, potholes, or sharp objects can damage a tire and lead to sudden failure while the vehicle is moving at high speed. When this occurs, drivers often have very little time to react.
Vehicle maintenance also affects tire performance. Regular inspections help identify worn tread, improper air pressure, or other damage before a tire fails. For large passenger vehicles, keeping tires in good condition helps reduce the risk of serious roadway incidents.
