What Factors Are Commonly Reviewed After a Pedestrian Crash?
Pedestrian accidents often result in serious injuries because the human body has no protection during impact with a vehicle. After these crashes, investigators review vehicle speed, roadway lighting, traffic signals, and the location of the pedestrian at the time of impact. Busy commercial roads may present added risks due to heavy traffic and multiple turning areas.
Crosswalk markings, visibility conditions, and driver reaction time may also be examined to better understand how the collision occurred. In some situations, surveillance cameras or witness statements provide additional details about events leading up to the crash.
Medical evaluations can also help determine the severity of injuries after a pedestrian accident. Some injuries may become more apparent after hospital treatment and diagnostic testing are completed.
