Shasta County, CA (May 13, 2026) – A major injury crash involving multiple vehicles was reported Tuesday morning on Interstate 5 southbound near Flume Crk in Shasta County.
Emergency units responded shortly after 9:25 a.m. following reports of a collision involving at least three vehicles, including a white Volvo semi-truck and a blue Subaru. Initial reports indicated the semi-truck rear-ended another vehicle in traffic, leading to a chain-reaction crash that blocked lanes on the interstate.
One injured victim reportedly suffered a large head wound along with a leg injury. Authorities later upgraded the incident to a major injury collision. Traffic was stopped for a period of time near Conant as crews worked to clear the roadway and assist those involved.
Authorities also noted that a third vehicle reportedly left the scene following the collision. They continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
Why Multi-Vehicle Crashes Involving Semi-Trucks Can Become Severe
Crashes involving semi-trucks often cause significant roadway damage due to the size and weight of these vehicles. When traffic slows suddenly on highways, large trucks may require greater stopping distances to avoid collisions.
Chain-reaction crashes can occur when one impact pushes vehicles into adjacent lanes or nearby traffic. Passenger vehicles involved in these collisions may experience extensive damage, especially during rear-end impacts with heavy trucks.
Investigators commonly review braking distance, traffic flow, and lane positions after major highway crashes. Vehicle damage patterns and roadway evidence can help determine how the collision sequence developed and whether additional factors contributed to the incident.
