South Brunswick, NJ (March 27, 2026) – A 64-year-old man from Somerset died on Friday morning after being ejected from his autocycle during a three-vehicle crash on Route 130.
The accident occurred around 6:45 a.m. on March 27 at the intersection of Route 130 and Melrich Rd. The police reported that the man was driving a 2020 Spyder autocycle southbound on Route 130 when a northbound 2024 Kia SUV attempted a left turn onto Melrich Rd. The autocycle struck the passenger side of the Kia, overturned, and then collided with a 2026 Honda Odyssey stopped at the intersection.
Emergency personnel performed lifesaving efforts and transported the man to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he later died. Two other people involved in the crash were taken to Penn Medicine at Princeton with injuries described as painful but non-life-threatening.
Sections of Route 130 were closed for roughly four hours while the scene was processed. No charges have been filed at this time.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.
How Left-Turn Collisions Can Lead to Multi-Vehicle Crashes
Left-turn collisions are a common cause of multi-vehicle accidents, particularly at busy intersections. When a vehicle attempts to turn across oncoming traffic, approaching drivers may have little time to react, especially at higher speeds.
Smaller, lightweight vehicles such as motorcycles or autocycles are particularly vulnerable in these situations. Even with protective gear, a sudden impact can cause a driver to be ejected from the vehicle, often resulting in severe or fatal injuries.
Stopped vehicles at intersections can also become secondary points of impact. When a primary collision occurs, momentum may carry vehicles into others nearby, creating a chain-reaction crash. Careful observation of oncoming traffic and cautious navigation at intersections can help reduce these types of collisions.
