Thousand Palms, CA (April 14, 2026) – A multi-vehicle crash involving a semi truck and a cement truck left one person dead and several others injured on Interstate 10 near Washington St.
The accident was reported around 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, just west of Washington Street. Investigators said a semi truck traveling eastbound suddenly veered into the center median, crossed into the westbound lanes, and collided with a cement truck.
The impact caused the semi to come to rest across the roadway, where it was then struck by a Jeep. The crash also triggered additional collisions involving four vehicles traveling in the eastbound lanes.
The driver of the cement truck, a 62-year-old man from Yucca Valley, was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi truck driver, a 38-year-old man from Menifee, suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital in Palm Springs. Authorities said six people in total were taken to hospitals with injuries ranging from serious to minor.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
How Multi-Vehicle Crashes on Interstates Can Escalate Quickly
Multi-vehicle crashes on interstates often begin with a single loss of control that affects multiple lanes. When a vehicle crosses a median into oncoming traffic, it increases the chance of head-on or side-impact collisions.
Large vehicles, such as semi-trucks and cement trucks, can cause severe damage due to their size and weight. When they are involved, surrounding vehicles may also be hit or forced into additional crashes.
Chain-reaction accidents can develop in seconds, especially when traffic is moving at highway speeds. Drivers behind the initial crash may not have enough time to stop, leading to multiple impacts across different lanes.
