Vancouver, WA (April 11, 2026) – A 13-year-old boy was seriously injured following a hit-and-run crash on Wednesday evening in Clark County.

The incident occurred just before 8:30 p.m. in the 11900 block of Northeast 119th Street in Vancouver. According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, the teen was walking along the shoulder of the roadway with two friends when he was struck by a westbound vehicle.

Authorities said the driver did not immediately remain at the scene and instead contacted 911 approximately 15 minutes later from a nearby parking lot.

Emergency crews responded and transported the injured teen to a local hospital for treatment. Officials later confirmed the boy sustained significant injuries and required further medical evaluation.

Law enforcement reported the driver was given sobriety testing and showed no signs of impairment. The case has been referred to the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office for review of possible hit-and-run charges involving injury.

The teen’s family said he has since been released from the hospital and is expected to recover after several weeks of healing.

Officials also noted that the investigation remains ongoing.

Why Are Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crashes Especially Concerning?

Hit-and-run pedestrian accidents are especially concerning because victims may not receive immediate medical attention. When a driver leaves the scene, critical minutes can be lost before emergency services are notified, which can significantly impact survival rates and recovery outcomes.

Fast reporting and a rapid emergency response are essential in these situations. The sooner first responders arrive, the better the chances of stabilizing injuries and transporting victims to appropriate medical care. Delays caused by a fleeing driver can make already serious injuries even more life-threatening.

These types of crashes also trigger more complex investigations. Authorities often focus on identifying the driver, reviewing surveillance footage, and analyzing evidence left at the scene. In addition, investigators may examine roadway design, lighting, and traffic patterns to determine whether environmental factors contributed to the incident.

From both a public safety and legal standpoint, hit-and-run pedestrian crashes highlight the importance of driver responsibility, prompt reporting, and improved roadway safety measures to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
