Why Centerline Cross Collisions Could be Severe
Collisions that occur when a vehicle crosses the centerline are frequently among the most dangerous on two-lane roads. When cars traveling in opposite directions collide head-on or nearly head-on, the combined speeds create a high-force impact, often leading to serious or fatal injuries.
Driver errors, fatigue, or distractions are common causes of a vehicle leaving its lane. Roadway conditions, including curves, weather, and visibility, can also increase the risk. Safety measures like clear lane markings, rumble strips, and cautious driving can help prevent such crashes, but vigilance is essential to reduce the likelihood of severe outcomes.
