Why High-Speed Interstate Crashes Can Lead to Fatal Outcomes
Highways such as Interstate 20 carry vehicles moving at higher speeds compared with city streets. When a crash occurs at highway speeds, the force of the impact can be much greater, increasing the chance of severe injuries.
In some crashes, occupants may be ejected from a vehicle during the impact. These situations often involve strong forces or vehicle movement that throw a person from inside the vehicle.
Interstate crashes can also disrupt traffic for extended periods. Emergency crews must manage traffic flow, assist those involved, and clear damaged vehicles before all lanes can safely reopen.
