What to Know About Fatal Two-Vehicle Crashes at Rural Intersections in New Jersey
Crashes at rural intersections often involve different hazards than those seen on highways or in urban settings. Lower traffic volumes can give drivers a false sense of security, leading to higher speeds or less attentiveness at crossroads. When a car and an SUV meet at speed, the size difference between the two vehicles can significantly affect how the force of a collision is distributed.
In New Jersey, fatal crashes are investigated by county-level prosecutors in coordination with local law enforcement. This process involves gathering physical evidence, interviewing witnesses, and sometimes reviewing available surveillance or dashcam footage. The involvement of a prosecutor’s office signals that the legal dimensions of the crash are being assessed alongside the factual ones.
Helicopter transport is typically used when ground travel would take too long given the severity of a person’s injuries and the distance to the nearest trauma center.
