Prince George’s County, MD (August 28, 2026) – A woman died after a suspect fleeing a traffic stop crossed double lines and struck her vehicle Wednesday afternoon. The accident happened about half a mile from the initial stop.
According to the Prince George’s County Police Department, an officer attempted to stop the suspect around 2:45 p.m. during an open investigation. The suspect initially stopped but then sped away, prompting a supervisor to order officers not to pursue.
Police said the suspect crossed the double lines and hit a car occupied by an adult woman. She was killed, and police said she was not involved in the original case.
The suspect also struck another vehicle carrying people, but no one inside that car was hurt. The suspect suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.
The department’s Internal Affairs Division and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit are investigating the wreck. Our condolences go to the woman’s family and loved ones.

Drivers who encounter a vehicle traveling unpredictably should avoid attempting to follow or confront it and should instead move to a safe position when possible.
